SEISS eligibility

Just a quick one, and I reading it right that eligibility for the self employment grant is based on your income in the past rather than at present?
I didn't qualify originally as the income from my employment was more than 50% of the total, however as I'm about to lose my job that will cease to be the case. I'm trying to work out if this makes me eligible for the second grant or if they just go on the last tax return and current circumstances aren't considered?

It's based on past income. It can't be based on future income because you don't know what that's going to be yet. No one knows exactly what the criteria is going to be for the 2nd grant yet.

Not so much saying future income, I'm meaning income at the time the grant will be paid. I'm likely to have no employment income from the end of this month so by August will be reliant on my self employed income only. While the grant would be small it would be better than nothing in the circumstances.

No one knows what the criteria for the next SEISS is going to be until the 12 June.

Hi, it looks like the 2nd grant will have the same criteria as the first .If you have a look at the "self employed & small ltd co help" page on this site, it states this -"The eligibility criteria are the same for both grants, and you don't need to have claimed the first grant to receive the second grant."1

@Pingoo - if someone was eligible for the grants, why would they claim the second grant but not have bothered to claim the first grant?0

They may not have suffered a downturn in business to date but might suffer some later. I don't expect many will be in that position but it is possible.Grumpy_chap said:@Pingoo - if someone was eligible for the grants, why would they claim the second grant but not have bothered to claim the first grant?
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/chancellor-extends-self-employment-support-scheme-and-confirms-furlough-next-stepsAn individual does not need to have claimed the first grant to receive the second grant: for example, they may only have been adversely affected by COVID-19 in this later phase.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. The qualifying criteria will be the same, based on income from 2016 -19. If you were not eligible for the first grant based on your income in this period you will not be eligible for the second grant either.sghughes42 said: I didn't qualify originally as the income from my employment was more than 50% of the total, however as I'm about to lose my job that will cease to be the case.
