Eon

Hi. I'm after some advice. I moved into a flat (rent) and have been trying to switch from existing supplier (British gas) to eon. After numerous failed attempts at trying to switch, because of an objection on the gas, they informed me yesterday that this was due to the MPRN number not being registered to the postcode. They have attempted the switch a number of times. When questionned about the reason they were unable to tell me, although when speaking to BG they said there was no problem. Now I'm debating whether to not go with Eon. When I asked about not going with them they said I would need to pay exit fee of £30 just for the electric, which doesn't even start until 22nd June and I've been attempting the switch since 30th April.
1. Do i need to pay the exit fee for something I don't have?
2. Is there any advice you can give me?
Thanks in advance

It sounds like the electricity switch has been completed successfully, but the gas switch has failed.
Why do you think that the electricity 'doesn't start until 22nd June'?
If you first tried to switch on 30th April it is likely that your electricity switch was completed first time and that is already with E.ON, and that is why they are telling you that there is an exit fee to pay.
Have you been asked to give E.ON an opening meter reading for the electricity yet?

If there is a problem with the MPRN, only British Gas as your current supplier can fix it. Perhaps trying switching gas only to another supplier to see if you get the same problem?  Separate suppliers are often cheaper anyway.

If the electricity doesn't start with e.on until the 22nd then you must still be in the cooling off period and can cancel without any penalty.

If you want to leave Eon without paying an exit fee first switch using Eon online to an Eon tariff that does not have an exit fee, wait till you get the confirmation email then switch to whoever.
  • Thanks for your comments! Will take advice on board. Thanks

They are saying that because they set up from April 30th that the 14 days cooling off period was from here and therefore expired.

Yes, clearly you are outside the cooling-off period, but the more fundamental issue is have they actually switched your electricity already?
Each fuel can be switched separately, so a problem switching gas wouldn't have stopped your electricity from switching, so are you already with E.ON for the electric?
