Vets quote

My cat George needs teeth extracting, last year I was given a written quote of just over £400, now from the same vet Ive been given a verbal quote of over £700, when I queried it he said that the first quote wasn’t for a senior cat, should I get a second opinion?

Yes, there is nothing to lose doing that  They do have to give a different anasetic(sp)   with older cats and dogs
I am in Northern Ireland and was quoted £265 that included no matter how many teeth out etc and she was 16.  But has she had kidney problems they decided she might not survive being put under.

Was George not a senior cat when you asked for the first quote and now he is classed as 'senior'?
Or is the vet saying you were misquoted initially?

Older animals  have a higher risk with aneasthetic, just as older people do They need xtra monitoring and care. They also use a different  aneasthetic  gas for older animals.
All this costs more money than a routine op for a younger animal.
Prices this year will have increased over last year  which will also reflect on the cost.
Your cat is a year older so may now come under the category of a 'senior' cat.
