Self Employed Grant scheme

Whilst trying to access the Self Employed Government Grant scheme I came up against a obstacle,The Government Gateway part ask to prove your identity either by a Photo driving license/passport or Credit card.
I have none of these and when you select this in the Gov. Site you get cut off , ringing HMRC as suggested several times and you get cut off.
I have applied to have my paper license replaced for a Photo version but this is delayed because of Covid .
Although intitled as was informed on the Gov. site will proving my identity issues stop from claiming.
Thanks gibballan.

Dont worry you will need to persist with the helpline number and get put through to the digitally excluded team who can process your claim.
  • This needs urgent investigation!!
HMRC basing Grant on Profits not Gross Income as PAYE workers are assessed!
This is grossly unfair in that we self-employed still have to pay rentals on shops/workshops and overheads! PAYE earners do not have to state what Income they have at the end of the day to qualify! They get 80% of GROSS.
When I put my Gross income self-employed into PAYE checker I get a payment possibility!
This is WRONG! Self-employed should get Grant based on Gross Income (upto the ceiling of £2500 odd)
HMRC have got this wrong and are taking the easy, cheap, way out. I get some Pensions but they are half of my Gross but more than my Nett Profits after overheads. I GET NOTHING. I am NOT eligible either for a BBL or any other financial help after conforming to Government requests to stop working and Lock Down!!!
Only after 6 weeks did they say HOW they would assess Eligibility for a Grant. I have 3 years Returns but the averages still leave me with "Not Eligible"
Disgusted! They need to revise this!!!!!!! It's DISCRIMUNATORY!
(68 and still having to work to eat!) So NO UC support either!

There doesn't appear to be a question.

Its not 'wrong' and won't be investigated. It is by design that they base the grant on profit and not turnover - your profit is the equivalent of an employee's salary, i.e. that is what you live on. That is what they are subsidising, not the business itself and all of the business' overheads.

You may not like it, but that is 100% the government's intention so why would they need to investigate that?
