Do you give your dog groomer a tip?

I know its common to tip your hairdresser but do you also tip your dog groomer? Ive just changed groomers and always tipped the one I previously used but today when I went to the new one I was so surprised when she told me the price (£10 cheaper than my old one and just as good) that I just paid her what she had asked and completely forgot to tip her. So spent this afternoon feeling a bit guilty but then starting wondering if everyone else doe actually tip or not.

  • What????  No.  For goodness sake.  Don't start that bandwagon rolling.  I know let's tip people who car valet, carpet fitters, tyre fitters, window cleaners.  Ridiculous.

Thanks for the reply, too be honest I only tipped the last one because it was the first time I had used a groomer and when I went to collect my dog on his first visit another person in front of me was paying and she tipped so I sort of thought it was the expected thing to do kind of like you tip your hairdresser so I followed suit. Obviously after that I carried on as I would have felt odd not doing but as I say Ive just started at a new groomers and didn't tip (and quite happy not to have to!) but just wanted to find out what seems to be the norm. Just for the record, I dont tip anyone else. Don't want to become a 'serial tipper'. lol.

I'll start tipping when people start tipping me for the job I do.

I don't tip anyone - hairdresser, dog groomer, waste disposal operative(?).  My husband tips taxi drivers because he used to be a Private Hire Driver himself.  But that's his choice, not mine!
I used to tip in restaurants but only round up to the nearest £5 now.  Some of my friends are mortified by my behaviour, but they'll get over it (and who is going out to a restaurant with friends these days anyway)?

  • I never tip a groomer as rarely can I see what they are doing or what they have done in my particular groomers. That's not to say I don't believe they have completed the groom correctly as mine is short haired and so has a simple wash, nails clipped etc. Sometimes she's come out smelling beautiful as they have used a doggy perfume whilst other occasions they have forgotten. It might sound minor but for £30 just for a wash it's pretty expensive considering I could really just put her under a shower but she enjoys the groomers and meeting the other dogs. I'm not sure when I would feel comfortable to go back to a groomers though.

The one and go to has just reopened and  they are all individual appointments so there is no socialising for the dog really. I do need the groomer though as he is a Cocker Spaniel and his fur grows very thick and curly to the point he sometimes resembles a big cuddly teddy bear so I can always see what's been done. I usually say I take him in and only get half of him back as his coat grows so thick and fast.  They will also do nail clipping for £5 or nails and ears for £8 so I probably wouldn't want to pay £30 if I only had a short haired dog.
