Ariel cable HELP {Merged}

Hi. I’ve recently bought a house and have no Ariel in my bedroom. I’ve gone into the loft and found the cable that runs down to the living room. Cut in a splitter and then fed a cable down into my bedroom. The issue I have is when I plug both cables into the splitter (living room and bedroom) the living room connection just vanishes. Only bbc works and that’s limited signal. When I unplug my bedroom cable from the splitter my living room works fine. Then as soon as I plug in my bedroom Ariel into the splitter my living room goes off but bedroom works absolutely fine. It’s worth noting that my living room is a longer run than the bedroom. What can I do?

I suspect this https://www.amazon.co.uk/One-All-Signal-Booster-Splitter-White/dp/B00QMEOC5M or similar is what you need0

I was thinking it may be a signal loss issue but wanted to check it wasn’t something else before buying more stuff. I only bought the splitter that isn’t sufficiently working today. I’ve bought the new splitter and it will be delivered tomorrow. Hopefully it works0

Either fit a separate aerial for the other TV or for a cheaper option try one of these - we have one and it is excellent.

aEriAlIf you have mains power in the loft -(stupid description - it has a power lead with a plug - see Q&A)Or for your living room (just an example) - https://www.onbuy.com/gb/slx-gold-2-way-plug-through-signal-booster-for-digital-freeview-tv~c7981~p3354284/

I'm not sure if the OPs aerial is in the loft or if it is rooftop but the cable runs through the loft. If it is in the loft you could check the aerial is pointing it the optimum direction (if it is rooftop I could understand if you didn't want to/couldn't). Whoever put it in originally may have done so, or found a direction that worked ok for the tv and left it at that. You can use this website https://www.freeview.co.uk/help to get a list of likely transmitters: put in your post code then make sure to pick detailed view. You can then use this website http://www.macfh.co.uk/JavaJive/AudioVisualTV/TerrestrialTV/TerrestrialCalculator.shtml (it is a bit fiddly but very powerful) to check the compass bearing for each and likely viability for your house (use the signal profile feature for this). If you can improve the signal the aerial is receiving this might let you use a second tv. Alternatively as others have suggested a second aerial is an option, if you are in a decent signal strength area a £10-15 aerial from a national chain of DIY stores may do.

You’ll need a signal booster in the bedroom. Plug the aerial in to the booster and have one cable going to the TV in the bedroom and another cable going to the TV in the lounge.PlumberMark said:Hi. It seems your signal isn’t strong enough for two TVs so a booster will help.0
