Argos problems with click and collect and my rights on a refund on part of a bundle

Okay so I decided to purchase a switch lite and a game from argos for my son. I chose a store where they were both in stock and made the long drive to Ellesmere port for my click and collect after I had pre paid online.
I get to Argos and they tell me the game is in stock but the switch is not. I explain that it was supposed to be, but was just told there was 'a glitch' and it should be in stock anytime from tomorrow and a week today.
It's now the next day and we haven't had a text to say it's ready and my son is getting increasingly upset as it was promised today.
I wondered if I could get a refund for the switch on its own. The item is however part of a bundle where I got £5 off when both items in the basket together. Also my son being the kid he is has opened the game and thus voiding the refund for that item.
What I was wondering however is am I entitled a refund for the switch on its own? I'd even happily accept a £5 less refund to account for the bundle.
Or could I just refrain from picking up the switch itself and wait for a refund?

To add I ask this because ive been toying with the idea of getting the switch from elsewhere because I am increasingly concerned I'm going to be waiting at least the week.
The item still even shows as available to collect now if I put another in my basket, so I'm sensing issues.0 -
Did Argos send you a message saying both were in stock and ready to collect?
If they did, then I would be contacting their customer service and pushing for either a refund of the Switch (keeping the £5 discount off the game) or a gift voucher for wasting your time and having to drive AGAIN to go and collect what should have been in stock the first time.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Isn't a long drive to pick up a games console not against the law just now?0

Not against the law driving 30 min as far as I'm aware. I think I overdid the 'long drive' bit maybe, but still an extra hour of petrol wasted. If it was illegal I don't see why Argos website would be offering me every store under the sun to click and collect.
And when I browsed the various stored, basically I chose the closest that had all the items in stock today. Then I got an instant text and said your order is ready.
I got there and they said it's just the switch. When I logged on the site when I got home the order details said u have picked one game up and the other 2 will be ready 3/6 - 10/60 -
Maybe you could teach your son to be patient and wait? Outrageous suggestion I know.1

personally I would be getting in touch with Argos and asking what the situation is and when they expect to have your paid for items available for you.

Well done an passing massive judgement on me and my son without having any background knowledge. You have no idea why I've bought him this switch, he may be a brat or he may thoroughly deserve it; you don't know. I didn't think it would be necessary to delve into that topic. But I forgot these places are full of sad people like yourself sat browsing the MS forum waiting to make pathetic comments.
I, not my son paid for click and collect 'today' I was promised the items 'today' by a merchant. I paid extra rather than going on eBay to save a few £ so I could get my items 'today' Of all places I thought people on an MS forum, and the consumer rights section as well, would understand that a merchant promises you goods or services on X day you expect to get them on X day as described.
I'm not one of them cranks who gets angry at staff in Asda because there's no toilet roll, I'm a key worker myself and I fully understand the struggles ATM. Would I be angry if I was told it was out of stock originally? Of course not. But I expect Argos to have a reliable stock checking system and to be honest about the current situation.
As for getting in touch I would love to. But sadly it's almost impossible to get in touch, all lines take you to recordings, often recordings that say, in not so many words "sorry we are to busy and can't help, bye"
