Hi. My daughter was not allowed to travel back to student accommodation due to coronavirus but expected to pay the rent. Surely this is not fair. Anyone have any experience or advice?

She was at Code student accommodation in another town from home. They were threatening to fine her if she did not pay.0

There's been a lot of threads on here like this. If your daughter signed a tenancy agreement then she's liable for the rent until the end of that period. If she's claimed the student loan then this was paid as normal in April.Sorry but it's not the landlords fault that the lockdown was put in place either.0

Fully agree with this - Students have signed a rental agreement - and many of them have a guarantor as well - who is also liable for the rent.poppy12345 said:There's been a lot of threads on here like this. Students are getting their full student loans and if they had part time jobs they should hopefully be furloughed, therefore students are one group who's income shouldn't be overly affected by this - so of course they should still pay rent.
Everyone that can afford to pay their rent should be

Sorry, OP, loads of threads as others have said, and the rent is due. Also, it was your daughter's choice to leave the accommodation, she never had to leave so the issue of travelling back never needed to arise. The accommodation was, and still is, available for her use. She might even be in breach of the tenancy leaving the property empty for an extended period.
The only exception that might vary this would be if she was staying in University accommodation and the University closed the accommodation.0
