Deposit refunds

Q. I had booked a ‘once in a lifetime’ special family cruise for August and paid 1K deposit. 6K balance was due but I made the decision to cancel due to the fact I have no confidence in getting a refund if cancelled (still awaiting refund from Virgin due to cancelled flight in March🤦♀️) and also as we are both out of work (self employed) we are probably going to need that £ to live on. Company are only offering vouchers.... no evidence yet... and will probably be useless to us as doubtful will now be able to afford/extra quarantine time also???? Is it £ lost, or worth trying anything???

If you cancel, by not paying the balance for example, before the company does, you lose the deposit. It seems you may have cancelled too early, worth asking for a voucher but it will be a goodwill offer, not a legal entitlement1
