Self employed grant and temp job

I have successfully applied for first grant but after that I got a temp job at a local warehouse, is on week by week basis so not sure how long it is for. I have just received my pay slip and I have been taxed at normal rate when I was expecting to be taxed at higher rate as this is my second job. What do I do? Phone HMRC and change my tax code? Will this impact my chances of applying for second grant coming in August? Many thanks for any replies.

I assume you mean you are self employed, but have taken on temporary employment? Your personal allowance will be given against your employment first. It will reduce the personal allowance available against your self employed profits. It will not affect applying for the second self employment grant, unless it means you have stopped your self employment.
  • Yes I am still self employed, waiting for travelling to restart as I am chauffeur, then I will get back to my self employed job. Thanks Jeremy.

If you were self employed and intend to continue as self employed, then you qualify for the SEISS grants 1 & 2.
It is positive that you have found alternate temporary employment.  As you are self employed and will complete a tax return, it is largely immaterial what tax you are deducted via PAYE on the temporary job as this will self correct when you do the tax return.
