Tips for contacting British Airways (BA) for cash refund for cancelled flight

My flight for 1st July has now been cancelled and I'd like a cash refund so believe I need to call them. I've already tried a few times but don't even get to join a queue - just politely told to call back another time and hung up on :(

Anyone have any tips for sorting this? Is there another option other than calling? Is there a best time of day to call? Is it worth just waiting a week and then doing a chargeback?

Any help hugely appreciated!

  • Hi,
I can't offer any help but I was going to post a topic about this so thought I would join your voice.

The BA line is not live and I am at a loss about how to get a refund. Mine was a reward flight but the taxes were still in excess of £1000. I panicked after not getting through to the callcentre and have accepted a travel voucher which may stop me getting a refund. I understand BA are going through a finincial crisis but as a frequent flyer with BA this has severly dented my confidence in them, and I can't see my custom continuing in the future. I just want to speak to someone.

I used Resolver to claim for a delayed flight last year and the service was fantastic! Might be an opition.

Wow that was a bit of a shocker. Tried again around 2pm and got into the queue this time. Call was then answered within a few minutes and a lovely BA operative actioned my full refund back to my credit card! Was told to allow 3-4 weeks but at least that's the ball rolling!
  • How did you find out it was cancelled? The website only shows up to 2 weeks in advance as far as I can see.

Yep they email you assuming you booked direct with them.

I think that they’ve put the message on to shorten the phone line wait. I got it a few times, but if you keep trying it will go through. I got to speak to an operative within about 10 minutes, which was much quicker than the time it took when I had to ring them about other flights a few weeks ago. When you get through the staff are good and my refund came back in just over a week. In general considering the circumstances I’ve been impressed by their response.

Exactly the same happened to me earlier this week. Was dreading going into battle with them, customer service couldn’t have been simpler or better in the end. Kudos to BA where it’s due.
