Car no Claims Bonus

Hi all , hopefully I’m in the right place for this question.

I have two cars one with 7 years no claims on and another which I’m going to sell with 1 years no claims. Can I add that 1 years no claims onto the policy of my car with 7 years no claims and get 8 in total ?

Thanks

No, it doesn't work like that - any more than you could split your 7 into a 3 and a 4 if you bought an additional car.

B'sides, it's pretty much academic. Few insurers recognise more than 9, and it's mostly 1% per year as you get past 3 or 4 anyway.

    B'sides,
Off topic ... things like this always confuse me - why type B'sides when it is easier (and the same number of characters) to type Besides? :)

(Like in Scotland, someone called Hugh may have the nickname Shug).

How is it "easier"? The apostrophe is a single keystroke, same as the letter E. (Sorry, "e". "E" requires a double keystroke.)

Should we refuse to use capitals and punctuation because they're extra keystrokes?

The path of least resistance would be to never answer any posts at all. In fact, why did I even get out of bed this morning?

No, you cannot. It would mean one could buy and insure (on seperate policies, unconsidering the costs) 5 cars, keep them for 2 years, then sell 4 of them and have 5 x 2 = 10 years of NCB accumulated during a 2 year period. It is not allowed as it doesn't make sense, although what is allowed yet still does not make sense is the following: people earn no claim bonuses for being good, responsible drivers and not causing accidents (let's not get into unfortunate events like theft), but you can use those bonuses on a single policy at a time as if you could only drive one car responsibly and all others wrecklessly. This can easily result in a nonsensical situation where you buy a second car that belongs to a much lower insurance risk category, yet you pay way more in annual premium to insure it as opposed to your first car with e.g. 8 years NCB. Some might say that's what multi-vehicle policies for. Yes, until you actually try to find one and none of the insurers would issue one (hence they pocket much more on multiple single policies). This technically makes NCB bonuses earned by cars, not drivers. In sensible European countries no claim bonuses are issued to people, not policies and they can have a hundred cars if they wish and enjoy their discounts on all.
