Working Whilst furloughed

Hi, this is a question on behalf of my dad and brother who were in the electrical department of the CLC Group.

Both had been furloughed by CLC (now made redundant unfortunately with less than 2 years service) since the beginning of all of this back in March. Their employer asked them to work for 1 day whilst being furloughed and they were then paid a furlough wage for that week. 

My question is, is this illegal due to not being allowed to work whilst on furlough for the company that have furloughed you? Should my dad and brother be paid their regular hourly rate for at least that day maybe even that week? Should they have also been removed off furlough for that day/week?

As you can understand I am ensuring my dad and brother are paid what they are if they are owed anything due to their redundancy in this difficult time.

  They should not have worked the day, the only thing they can do is report it to HMRC as the employer was not eligible to claim from the JRS because of this and yes they should have been paid full pay for the day.
