Best Card

in Credit cards
I am looking to get a credit card (additional card reqd for my partner). I intend to pay balance in full at end of each month. Whilst interested in rewards etc, I am keen to use credit card for spending and having the ‘protection’ that credit cards offer. I do not necessarily want to have to remember to cancel the card before a year two starts (knowing I’d probably forget). In this instance, what might be the best credit card for me. Any thoughts would be gratefully received.

American Express Platinum Cashback Everyday Credit Card is a good everyday credit card with cashback and no fee. If you're going to spend over £10,000/year, the American Express Platinum Cashback Credit Card gives a higher rate of cashback but costs £25/year (£10,000/year is the crossover point at which the higher rate of cashback balances out the fee). They give the cashback as a credit on your statement once a year.
However, if you go for AmEx, you need to be aware that there are a few places that don't accept it. You'll need either a Visa or a Mastercard as a backup to use in these places. I find that I can put about 95%+ of my spending on AmEx. There's an eligibility checker at https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/eligibility/credit-cards/search/ . You can use this to see what might be available that'll suit you. Pretty much any no fee Visa or MasterCard should do. (I've noticed that recently Visa cards seem to be a bit more readily available and to offer higher credit limits. YMMV, of course.)

Have a look at this page and decided what works for you https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/credit-cards/best-credit-card-rewards/ one that isn't on the page is Barclaycard Rewards0

Just a word of caution...if you don't already have a credit card or other credit account, the choice you're offered may be quite limited.
As you specifically mention 'protection', bear in mind that the section 75 cover may not apply to purchases made with your partner's card; this is something worth reading up about if it is important to you. General tip...make major purchases on your card.0 -
Personally, I would apply for the Amex Platinum Cashback card and the Barclaycard Rewards card as a back up. It goes without saying that you should use the eligibility checker before applying for either of these.0

I agree with what previous posters have said about American Express and Barclaycard. In addition to the reasons stated previously, I would also add that I have found the customer services of both card providers to be absolutely first class, backed up with easy to navigate websites for card management and also very flexible in terms of downloading information in a variety of formats.0
