Student rent

My son’s landlord for uni accommodation is showing no concession - uni advice was to return home, he has medical conditions which has meant he could not work to offset contributing at home - single parent who has lost some income expected to contribute and is guarantor - other students have had rent waived by uni. Any help out there?

Is it privately rented? If so then he's signed the tenacy agreement for a specific length of time and the remainder of the rent needs to be paid. If he receiives a student loan then this was fully paid as normal in April and he should use that to pay the last rent. If he doesn't pay then the guarantor will become eligible to pay the remainder.

It does not matter what others are doing or what the university said as that has nothing to do with the contract he signed. The only thing that matters is what the landlord says and what the contract says. I assume the accommodation is still available for him to use if he wanted to, he just did not want to use?

His grant/ loan would have been assessed based on your income. If that income has fallen by more than 85% you can ask for a reassessment. that may effect next year's loan rather than this ones, but is something to consider.
As someone has already said, he has his grant/ loan for this term and should use it to pay the rent.
