Hi all,
We've had our application to adopt a lovely rescue lurcher completed and although we won't be able to bring him home for the foreseeable future due to current restrictions, we wanted to get some of the essentials in place ready now.
I've been trying to find the right bed and it's a bit of a minefield and although I found a couple of forum posts on various sites the links to most of the beds suggested no longer exist and prices really seem to vary.
It's intended that his bed would be in our kitchen which has a tiled floor so I'm conscious of getting something padded and warm enough for him at night.
Tuffies seem to have been recommend a few times but for the size we need it's nearing £200 - which I don't know if would be just as good as a bed for £50 and I'm conscious he might not even use it. He's been in the rescue for over a year so living in a home is going to be a big adjustment as it is for him.
I've seen a couple of orthopaedic/memory foam dog beds which I thought could be suitable and we would then supplement with additional bedding

xlarge £70

The other option I had considered was getting something like an elevated bed like this

and then getting a mattress to go on top.
Can anyone recommend any of these beds or any alternatives?
I'm happy to pay for more expensive beds but only if they are are actually worth it 😉
Thanks all

Some sighthound owners use a cot mattress on the floor.
I haven't had sighthounds but I prefer the plastic Ferplast type of bed with ventilation holes in the bottom so you don't get condensation underneath and a fleece or padded blanket or duvet in it.
Both the bed and the blankets can be washed.
The plastic bed won't harbour fleas.
Some dogs seem to prefer the open, flat beds like these https://www.hik9.com/products/hik9-bed-with-grey-mesh-cover-1?variant=31040037486679¤cy=GBP&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIp8DRiobk6QIViLbtCh1oyAFMEAQYASABEgLtMPD_BwE
with a fleece or duvet on it.
Make sure it is big enough for the dog to lie stretched out. Sighthounds like to stretch out on their backs.

OP, does the hound have a bed at the rescue? Could that one come home with him if you replace it for the rescue? Or could they tell you what he seems to like? It's not difficult!
'Wander' - to walk or move in a leisurely manner.
'Wonder' - to feel curious.0 -
Are you handy with a sewing machine? What about a cheap double duvet folded into quarters and covered with a large pillowcase?0

but I agree that asking the rescue what he likes now would be good.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
We've just got a couple of "Trojan" dog beds, made out of the same ballistic material as bullet/stabproof vests, water and dust proof and excellent quality.

For the price, and with a 4/5 month old pup at the time, lasting more than 2 weeks worked out financially sound, as that is the rate we were getting through cheaper beds at.
She's 10 months old now (and stopped eating everything) and the beds look and feel as good as new.Life isn't about the number of breaths we take, but the moments that take our breath away. Like choking....0
