Problems with hot water flow

Some time ago I asked for your advice with the hot water pressure as I bought the bathroom enclosure which does not work with the system I have at home. It still doesn't but I found a plumber who will put an unvented cylinder. He said it'd be better than changig a boiler to combi as my boiler is fairly new.

However, ever since I had this bathroom suite installed I have had problems with the hot water flow, even in the kitchen (which should not be affected and where the flow was really good before). My brother keeps opening the pipes as the water stops flowing every second day (recently every day!) and it looks as if we have air locks. He burnt his hands today completely yet opening the pipes again! And the water is not flowing:mad:

I am seriously worried that even putting a new cylinder may not solve the problem and I don't want to spent around £2 000 and till have this problem. It's been two months now. I'm so fed up!

  • Hi

An unvented cylinder will solve the air lock problem.

You had a problem with the boiler ,did this resolve itself ? Is the hot water that comes out of your tap hotter than it used to be? Do you run hot water in the bath at all? If not then maybe if you did it would prevent the build up of air.

  • Thanks Corgi,

I don't think the water is hotter than before. It was always very hot, when heated (I heat it twice a day and it was enough to wash up and have a bath and whatever else I needed).
My brother got burnt as the water was heated for washing up and as the water did not run at all in the kitchen he opened the pipes to get rid of the air lock. I am really fed up with all of this.

I have had 6 plumbers in my house up to now but they all said they are too busy at the mo. They promised quotes and none of them provided any. I started thinking that there are no honest and reliable plumbers in the area. Maybe my bad luck. Anyway, hopefully this one who offered to install an unvented cylinder will come. He said it'd be around £1 500. I want to be sure though that it will indeed solve the problem. He said that if there is any leak after changing the systems he will not hold any responsibility. But he warned me things like that may happen. So obviously I'm worried.

Equally I have to have the problem solved finally as I'm pregnant and need hot water!
