Wedding Abroad in Mexico in end of September

Hi,
We are meant to be married in Mexico and flying on 21st September.
I'm struggling with what to do - whether we postpone now, or wait. So I wanted to see if anyone is in a similar situation, what you've done, anything else I've not thought of.

A few of our guests have to pay the balance by mid-June. Do we pay the balance and then see the charge of changing closer to the date, change now before paying the balance?
If self isolate for 14 days is a thing we will definitely postpone. But we will be so frustrated if things go back to normal and we could have gone in September. But also don't want our guests to lose out on money.

Any other advice, comments etc are welcome.
Many thanks,
Fran

No one can be sure what will happen, it all up in the air.
I've seen a few of posts about weddings overseas, and believe they have all postponed them (can't be 100% sure)
I can't see the picture being much clearer in 2 weeks time.

No signs of normality in Mexico currently. Though "normal" may not be same as the old "normal".
  • Same boat as you @Franiel due to marry in Barbados in August. Because of the uncertainties we have decided to postpone. Really upset that some guests are losing there deposits. We have only paid a £250 deposit on a debit card to a travel agent and due to clear balance on 4th July. I am on here looking for advise too, I think tomorrow we will try the chargeback route to try and get our money back. Travel agent keeps changing their fees (£15 then £50pp). Our flight is not yet cancelled however, as Virgin are no longer flying from Gatwick I am sure the schedule will some how change. BA advised some of our guests that the have moved the balance required date to three weeks before the original departure date so depending on who your guests are flying with, this may also be the case.
    Good Luck

If I'm understanding this correctly, you have chosen to cancel the trip and not the travel agent? Have you already cancelled? If so, what are the cancellation terms of your booking?

If they state that you will surrender your deposit and pay a cancellation fee (I assume this is the £15/£55pp you refer to?) then, whilst there's no harm in trying a chargeback, I fear you may struggle to recover the money.

I really feel it for you franiel (and other poster also).   Having arranged a wedding in Mexico, I think I would be inclined to try and see if I could postpone to next year.  Did you all book through same travel agent?   My first step would be to see if you can re-arrange it all for 2021 without much hassle (ok big hope but..you never know).

If this isn't possible and you all stand to lose a lot money by cancelling now then I think you will have to pay up and wait and see.  This will be frustrating I know.   I do feel though that IF it does go ahead they will still make it wonderful for you no matter what distancing rules are in place. The resorts are amazing.   Obviously if advice remains same and you can't travel, you will then be able to transfer to next year.   Good luck.
