A vulnerable family member has a broken combi boiler and I'm researching into the ECO scheme to get a discounted boiler for them.  They are eligible based on the criteria on different websites, etc.

I see the main three companies currently offering this are:

EON - £395
EDF - £240 (Uses Pacifica / 0800 Repair)
NPower - Can't find a price (Uses Pacifica / 0800 Repair)

As they don't have much money I was going to recommend the EDF option, but does anyone have any experience of the ECO scheme through any of these companies (or any other company) ? - The only information I could find on 0800 Repair was someone being quoted nearer £1,000 after some 'extras' were added in.

The only other downside with EDF is they advise me that we need to pay an independent Gas Safe engineer first to inspect the boiler to confirm that it is broken beyond repair, which would add to the cost - EON tell me that is included as part of the survey with them.

I've very interested to hear from those who have gone through this before for any recommendations, etc.
Thanks in advance

It is a Vizo 24 Condensing Combi Boiler.

Initially the hot water stopped, and when checking the boiler there were no flames, but also no warning lights. The next day it was fine - was even able to run a full bath without issue.

A few days later the central heating didn't come on when it was supposed to in the morning and when checking the boiler, the gas warning light was lit.

We were able to get the heating working again by switching the dial to 'o' and then back again to the water/heating option. This then worked and we were able to use the heating/water again.

Then the central heating didn't come on again and the error light is back.

When I turn the dial to 'o', give it a few seconds and then back again to water (or water/heating - I've tried both), the flames light for around 5 seconds and then go out with the boiler continuing to make noise for a short while. This repeats for around 5 times and then stops with the warning light back again.

Npower installed a new boiler for us entirely free of charge in 2017. I'm not sure if they've changed the scheme since then. We were Npower customers at the time and, although I believe that is not essential, it possibly helped. It took around 4 months from initial application to installation.

Thank you - Managed to get hold of Npower and they are quoting a minimum contribution of £584.

Out of interest how long does it take for the install to take place ?

From the initial contact: first they had to verify our eligibility, then they had to do an inspection and produce an EPC, then they had to book the installation which was later rescheduled. In all around 4 months.

The actual installation took the guy one afternoon and then he came back the next morning to clean up and make good after the various bits of cement and filler had dried.

Thank you - That doesn't sound bad.  I thought it was going to be a day or two's work for a couple of them.
