My take on it is that OP still has subscription but the only way to get it is for it to be sent by post.
Probably because the vets have not implemented a collect at door system, I'm guessing because it is now unmanned and only visited when needed.1 -
Maybe they are too busy and too short staffed and dealing with a backlog of sick animals2

Or maybe their normal supplier cannot provide the product, so they order through a different supplier but to get it to you quickly and safely they get that supplier to send it to you directly (the £2.50 being the charge applied by the supplier)I don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!2
