Furlough pay

I've been furloughed since the 1st april. I only came back to work in feb after maternity. In april they over paid me by £100 and this month they have underpaid me by £400+ . When i questioned this they said they base it on my wages over the last 12months. Is this right as of from may last yr i was on maternity and if this is the case i'm not gona be paid very much. Can someone please clarify this is the case??

It depends on whether you are a fixed rate pay employee or a variable pay employee. If you normally receive a salary every month that doesn't change (when not on maternity), you are a fixed rate pay employee, and the amount your employer can claim for you is based on your pay for the last pay period ending on or before 19 March 2020. If you were still on maternity for part of that pay period, that is ignored in working out your pay. But if your pay varies month by month when you are working, they will take maternity pay into account in working out what they can claim in respect of you.1
