Travel insurance renewal tricky question.

In January I booked a holiday which included separately booked ba flights, an air bnb and a hotel in Italy. I have an annual travel insurance policy with virgin which was to renew on the 21st may. Unlike normal it turns out that I had to call to renew - no auto renewal here which I missed in the letter. I didn’t realise this until checking my bank account on Saturday and realising that the policy payment hadn’t gone out so called them. They are shut over the weekend so called them this morning. While on hold an email from ba came saying of course that our flight was cancelled which isn’t a shock but the timing is just completely out of this world. The travel insurance is now renewed but for today. I can get a refund on this and the flight but the hotel was a non refundable rate so my question is: Is there any chance I will be able to claim as the booking was made while covered and the policy has been renewed all be it 10 days late. The renewal letter said the renewal was valid until the 5th June. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Is the hotel open at the time you would have been travelling?
Because if they are shut, then your first port of call would be to try to get a refund from them, given it's not you that's cancelled. Have you been in touch with the hotel ref the booking? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.1 -
I waiting to hear back from them at the moment. They seem to be open on their web site and social media says their restaurant is open soon so I think it’s unlikely they will be shut in July.

You need to read your policy and see if it is on a claims made basis or losses occurring ? That will depend on whether you are covered. (I work in insurance) if it is the latter you will be covered as when you booked the holiday you had insurance in place0
