roxio wont remove & is stopping AVG from updating - any ideas?

ok im not the brightest of sparks, but i have downloaded AVG free version and its downloaded all ok, but the box in the task bar remains black & says it needs updating. When i try it says already updated, but for the life of me i cannot get this box to go the right colours.

When i installed it it did say roxio may interfere with it, so ive been into the control panel and tried to remove it, only to get 90% of it undone then it says fatal error unable to continue.

any ideas please?

get yourself an uninstaller utility.
plenty around and you will be able to find a free trial for this one task
or freeware like this

Several posts on the same topic there, although on a quick look I didn't find any satisfactory solutions.

I had the same thing happen but I updated Roxy from their site which cost nothing and then AVG worked fine.

ok ive run the microsoft thingy remover, and its taken roxio off, but still i have a black avg logo and it says its all updated. i restarted comp etc. im also getting a message to say critcal error & to down load registry cleaner

am i missing something?

When do you get the error message? What exactly does it say?

AVG is working now i downloaded the cleaner reccommended on here thanks...... the other problem is....


error messages:
1) - message from local system user on THEN THE DATE & TIME
critical error message - registry damaged & corrupt
to fic the problem open I.E. and type https://www.registrycleanersxp.come

2) - Stop windows requires immediate attention
windows has found 55 critical system errors
download resitry update at https://www.regfixit.com then install, run & reboot your comp.
failure to act may lead to system failure.

These are rogue programs that pretend to clean up malware, but they are malware themselves. A quick google will give lots of advice on how to remove them.

May be automatically installed when installing other software. Think about what you installed just before you started having the problems.
