Garden Landscaping Cost - house in a hilly area!

Hello,
We were viewing a property in Surrey hills near Sanderstead and wanted to understand how much it could cost to landscape a garden. The garden is over 150 feet deep and around 35 feet wide. The trouble is it is very steep/goes uphill from the rear of the property and also not maintained well at all. Of course the cost would be proportional with how fancy it needs to become but just considering basic decking, creating steps/sections along the slope etc., would anyone be able to help with a very rough estimate? We initially liked the property from its photos but after visiting, suspect that the garden would cost quite a bit to maintain and hence unsure about offering on the house.
Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks

A very rough estimate would be well over £1000, well under £10,000.

Sadly nobody will be able to give you any better than that without seeing it, try messaging local landscaping companies to ask for a very rough price and just explain that you want an idea on whether or not it'll be doable with your budget... one of them will be friendly enough to help you with a guesstimate.

I imagine a lot will depend on how steep the slope is.  If it is too steep for machinery to be used there could be a very large labour charge.

I've seen those gardens before and I am going to ask do you actually want such a garden?
Are there no other properties with a normal, non-sloped garden? It makes everything more difficult / expensive than it needs to be, surely.

That is the exact question we are actually thinking about as well but just wanted to check what people think the costs could be - to reinforce our own thoughts probably

You kind of have confirmed our worry there. A large part is so steep it would be considered proper hiking in the mountains if the garden was longer!
I guess the takeaway for us - no offer on this house.
