Hi guys, hoping someone can help or at least steer me in the right direction. I was meant to be going up Machu Pichu in June with the girlfriend but obviously it's been cancelled.
We booked a tour and paid a 432 dollar non refundable deposit to Salkantay Trekking. Now I know this is non refundable but in my eyes if they can't fulfill this then surely they should refund the money, however, they say it's for force majeure and as their country relies on tourism income they need to keep it (I'd like to keep my customers money too, but still..!)
Anyway, they've offered us to change the date to later in the year for free but we don't want to go later in the year because we have no idea if it will be safe or even possible to travel, on top of that we chose June specifically as it's the best time of year to go. They have said if we want to delay to any time in 2021 there's a 140 dollar fee to move it past the end of the year which I don't want to agree too as who knows when we can go and I can't afford to be throwing good money after bad at the present moment.
Ideally I want my money back so we can rebook as and when we're able too (and maybe with a more flexible company!), is there anything I can do?
Is this suitable for a chargeback or should I contact the credit card company? The other option is the travel insurance. I'm not sure what my luck will be with any of these options as they have offered to rebook it but not when we want or are able to go, and at a cost!
 Thanks guys

I think first route of call having not been able to negotiate a refund or suitable outcome would be your travel insurance.

I am not convinced this would be a chargeback or s75 claim as unclear if the trek would still be available had you reached Peru and the normal non-refundable terms of your agreement.

These are the terms and conditions you agreed to
Payments for itinerary changes or public land closures are not refundable. If a trip is canceled due to circumstances beyond our control a trip credit equal to the full amount paid will be issued.

As they are  offering an alternative I suspect credit card  claim would be rejected.

If they cancelled it then try a Chargeback  in the first instance.
Visa & Mastercard have updated their  advice, stating to allowed Chargebacks even when a voucher has been offered.
