Cereals - Your Favourite Brands

cognoscenti said:Yes. Rice crispy equivalents at least from the likes of Aldi, Lidl, Tesco & Sainsburys - not choocy ones - and it's surprising how bad some are, being undercooked and/or unevenly cooked and they certainly taste nothing like.
The only 2 I have found no decent equivalent for are both Kellogs, with their Rice Krispies and Cornflakes.
I've tried, really I have.
Weetabix, hoops, shreddies etc. the equivalents can be very good but with those two, equivalents elude me.1 -
Let’s be honest here, all cereals are processed rubbish invented by big manufacturers to make billions. Nowt wrong with porridge for breakfast, a lot more wholesome and filling.2

So much to read, so little time.1 -
For years I was a creature of habit, my breakfast was/is a mix of Kelloggs Special K and Sultana Bran. I have since saved a lot of money by buying own brand versions of Special K- Aldi's is my favourite but there is little to choose between any of them, including Kelloggs. I also buy bran flakes and sultanas separately which is far cheaper (especially at Aldi/Lidl).1

Lidl Bixies are identical to Weetabix, look the same, taste the same, nutrionial value the same, only cheaper.
I'm convinced they are made by Weetabix1 -
Normally, DH has organic or Greek plain yogurt with granola, but he wanted to try cereals at weekends, just for summer. Bought gluten-free Cheerios from Amazon and he loved them. Can't find them in supermarkets anywhere so I bought him Rice Krispies and Kellogg's Cornflakes on a current Iceland offer. We did an elimination diet thing and it's the wheat that gives him NCGS, not barley. I agree with @Deleted_User that cereals are pretty much junk, and they spray them with vitamins. But if he thinks he's being deprived of carbs, I get called a " Food Nazi ".2

Own brand Tesco Fruit and Fibre is far better, FAR BETTER, than actual Fruit and Fibre and I think about a third of the price. Cereals are way too expensive. My boyfriend loves the crunchy nut clusters but they're like £4 a small box. He finishes it in about three bowls!1

I managed to buy Kellogg's Bran Flakes by mistake (the downside of the boxes being so similar, plus Covid distraction). I suppose I could have taken them back - they were way more expensive than own brand - but I thought I'd keep them and compare them.
They really are no different from the Sainsburys, Aldi or Lidl own brands that I've had in recent months. If anything, I prefer the slightly thicker flakes of the own brands vs. the thin flaky flakes of Kellogg's.1 -
