How to Play Music - Sonos and or CD Player?

I hate to ask these questions because I know they sound really dumb.
OK, here it is:   I have years and years of music all on CD's.   Until a couple of years ago, I had a Pioneer Surround Sound System which I could play the CD's on, or I could listen to the radio on the system, plus it was linked up to the TV.
Now, I no longer have that system.  I think we were switching over to Sonos.  I don't have a CD player anymore and even then, I don't think you can connect a CD player up to Sonos Speakers?  I have several Sonos speakers around the house but they haven't been in use for a couple of years, other than the sound bar for the TV.  I've also got a couple of Alexa's which plays music from the internet.

So, I guess my question is, other than relying on the internet always working to listen to all my old tracks - what can I do to play my CD's through the Sonos.  Sometimes I just want to listen to a few CD's, I know I can tell Alexa to play me tracks etc, but its annoying having to think of names of what I want to listen too.

Please, no bashing me for being dumb.  Technology has moved on so much and I have been very much left behind!

Rip your CD to a lossless format(.flac, .ape etc and manipulate them that way.
  • Do you already have a DVD player connected to your TV?  Otherwise could connect a CD player up to the soundbar if you don't use DVDs any more.

There is a DVD player, but it's never used.  Are you saying I could buy another CD player and then connect it up to all the Sonos speakers or just the sound bar on the TV?

You can probably play your CDs on your DVD player.  Hopefully someone else can advise you on how to connect to the Sonos

I think it means change the CD format through the internet so the Sonos can play it?

What it means is copying the CDs onto your computer either in a lossless format type file, eg, FLAC, ALAC, or if you're struggling for space on your hard disk then a higher bit-rate, compressed format such as MP3. That assumes you have a computer with an optical drive that can play your CDs.

Terrysdelight, do you have any of the following Sonos pls:
    • Play:5 (gen2)
    • Play:5 (gen1)
    • Connect
    • Connect:Amp
    • Amp
    • Port

These apparently all have a line-in that you could plug the DVD player into.

    This is what I have:
    Sonos Sound Bar
    3 x Sonos  Play 1
    2 x Sonos  Play 3
    A Sonos Bridge

On the back of each speaker they have what I think are called Ports - for Ethernet Cables to be plugged in.  I think this is if you want it to come straight off of the router as opposed to wifi.
