Furlough Declined

Hi , Ive just been told that my company can't furlough me as they do not have a business account? Has any other small businesses been told this and found a way around it? Or am I not being told the truth....

It’s their choice anyway. If they don’t want to furlough you they don’t have to.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
  • It is hard to tell as there is not enough information in your post. Have you previously been paid via PAYE, do they operate an online payroll etc. Everything they would need is listed on the link below. What contract are you on, salaried, hourly (if so how many contracted hours) etc. and have you still been paid? Remember that there is no right to be furloughed, but they do have to comply with your contract.

What they are telling you may or may not be the truth.  I don't think not having a business account would stop them claiming the furlough for staff wages.  Has PAYE tax and National Insurance been deducted from past wages?  Have you received any wages since lockdown?

At the end of the day an employer does not have to furlough any staff at all.  It is entirely their choice.

Not read that they need a business account but how do they normally pay you?
