Hitachi failed to take direct debit

Hello
Im looking for a bit of advice from anyone who has been in similar situation. I took out a personal loan with Hitachi in October and set up a direct debit with them. In April, they attempted to take a direct debit but it failed due to an oversight on my part and insufficient funds. Unfortunately, I missed the 2PM cut off point with my bank but immediately paid the amount outstanding manually on the same day. Anyway I spoke to Hitachi over the phone who assured me this was ok. However, yesterday I received an email from Hitachi saying my account was in arrears and I needed to make an immediate payment, I was slightly confused by this as the dd is due to come out on the 18th of the month and 10 days had passed since this date. I checked my bank account and my Hitachi app and sure enough there was no payment made for this month. It wasn't that the dd was rejected though, they just hadn't attempted to take it at all, again I immediately made a payment to bring my account up to date. Im very concerned by this as im in the middle of a mortgage application and im worried there will be an automatic late mark against my credit file. I spoke to someone yesterday at Hitachi who assured me it was their fault and that they would add a note to the system but today Ive checked the app again and I have a late payment charge of £25 applied. I spoke to them again today and they removed it as a 'gesture of good will' and said that payments need to usually be over 14 days late for it to have a negative impact on the credit file but I still cant help but worry. If a late mark does appear, do I have a leg to stand on to get it removed? Many thanks in advance for any advise :-)

Have you checked your direct debits in online banking? Is it still showing on there or have they cancelled it?0

Its still showing that its active, its also showing that the DD is in place on the hitachi app0

Have you checked your files at the 3 credit reference agencies ?
Any mention on there about the late payment ?0 -
not yet as its only just happened. If they do report it, I would expect it be in the next couple of weeks or so. Its so frustrating as we are so close to completing on the mortgage so this would throw a major spanner in the works.

Critiquing your post, i'm wondering if you were you checking your accounts' status on the days approaching the DD collection because your posts read like you weren't 🤔
The point i'm making is that by keeping ontop of things this hassle could have prevented and by not noticing monies weren't being taken in a timely manner you're not doing your due diligence and Hitachi will lay the situation in your own court.
Pay all due sums and get all this firmly behind you - if only for the sake of the mortgage application.
I'm going to take a step further and, gently, advise that keeping ontop of your future mortgage and household bills by checking your accounts at least once a week is a practice that is strongly suggested because repeats of this, current, pattern will give you major headaches in the future

So you were 10 days late and are now back up to date, have spoken to Hitachi since bringing the account up to date?
If that's the case I'd he very surprised if it goes down as arrears on your credit file but none of us can be sure.
The only sure fire way to find out is monitoring your credit files and see for yourself. You should probably be having this conversation with Hitachi, they are the ones sharing data with credit reference agencies1 -
Its the compliance dept, or compliance officer, you need to be in touch with, normally they can only be contacted by writing to them at a particular company. They are the ones who deal with your data, the people on the phones only know what their screen tells them.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
