Hi Martin, please can you help. Daughter has just finished uni after doing her degree. No jobs around at the moment can she get help with any benefits to live on. Tried job seekers allowance and they have said she not entitled as she haven’t paid enough no contributions, is she entitled to It.living back at home one parent working the other disabled..

New style JSA is a contributions based benefit so DWP are correct if she hasn't worked and paid the correct amount of NI contributions in the previous 2 tax years.Universal Credit is a means tested benefit. Did your daughter receive a student loan while she was in UNI?0

Yes she got a student loan...0

This will be classed as income and prevent her from claiming UC now. I'm unsure when she will be able to apply but i'm sure others will know and advise you further.

She got her maintence loan0

She will be able to claim UC once the course has officially finished. Her maintenance loan is expected to support her until then.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.2
