Churchill, Direct Line, Privilege – do not pay to guarantee your no claims discount, it’s a con.

strongly suggest people think again about paying Churchill, Direct Line and Privilege to guarantee their bonus unless they know that should they be unfortunate enough to be involved in an accident then their premiums will automatically hiked.
Every insurer works the same way.

My stepdaughter did and was involved in a minor accident where both parties were at fault

Apparently they paid out nearly £1000 to the other party

One party appears to be at fault. Otherwise there would have been no claim on your step daughters insurance.
From what I understand there was "equal" blame. We still don't know what they paid for as they are unwilling to send copy documents because of GDPR, according to Churchill that is. As I wrote before I think it is unlikely GDPR applies but there is nothing stopping them redacting the personal information before sending copies but obviously they do not want to send the documents. It seems there is no transparency or accountability.

They are not accountable to you. They have the right to handle and settle the claim as best they see fit. Check your policy wording.

Whether or not a party was at fault, being involved in an accident is usually a sign of not driving defensively, to a variable extent.

I've been involved in one write off scenario, which according to the letter of the law was the other parties fault - I was not given my right of way when entering a roundabout and someone approaching from my left entered the roundabout while I was already on it, and my motorbike hit her offside front wing and crumpled like tinfoil while I supermanned it over the top of her car and 20 feet down the road.

Whilst she was at fault for not giving way to her right, the incident wouldn't have happened if I had been driving more defensively and had taken the "EVERYONE IS TRYING TO KILL ME" mindset while driving.

Whilst I had every right to be on the roundabout in question at the time, if I had entered the roundabout more slowly and taken the time to digest that the dozy bint was on snapchat or similar, and given myself time to act evasively, her poor driving could have resulted in no collision.

This is really the only approach to take when on the road, especially on a bike. Someone else breaking the highway code doesn't make it impossible for me to have avoided the incident.

    I accept that.
