Unexpected large bill
Options
we have been renting a house for the past almost three years now, there is me, my partner and our house mate changed last year from another couple to a single person. we have been using a company called Glide for the entire time we have been living at the property, and yesterday we recieved a rather large "usage correction bill" bigger than it has ever been before. upon looking at the bill the standing rate for electricity is 71p per day along with unit rates being a little steep. The bill have a wierd time line as well because they never did an "exit annual statement" when 2 previous tenants left jun 2019, so the bill we now have has that too. and the usage they have given us for a 21 day period is a rediculous amount concidering the regular usages we had around that time. I just need help with what to do. we have contacted them and they were very unhelpful, other than to say we can set up a payment plan for it.

There are so many questions to ask you but the key one is, do you have readings for Jun 2019 when the last tenants moved out?
Other questions are:
Do you have regular readings from Jun 2019 until now, so that they show a usage pattern? Did you get bills from Glide?
If you pay by Direct Debit, on what basis was the amount decided?
Other questions will follow, no doubt but these are for starters.0 -
Could you blank out the private info and copy the bill please.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

71p per day as opposed to 16-20p per day .Glide is this just electric or does it include more stuff like broadband .You have taken and given frequent meter readings .Especially on taking over the service .0

But you may need to pay off any arrears before switching.

IIRC Glide accounts are usually set up by 'helpful' landlords for shared (often student) households.
Glide's charges are horrendous. It seems you're on their standard tariff:
Standing (daily) charge: 74.55p
Price per kWh: 24.22p
They offer a 'lite', temporary, tariff for customers who move in to a property, which isn't quite as horrendous:
Standing (daily) charge: 28.5p
Price per kWh: 19.04p
Who was paying the bill before the other tenants moved out?0 -
Using Glide is like being voluntarily mugged.1

I suspect the problem is that you're on what is probably the most expensive electricity tariff in the UK. Perhaps what you were paying previously wasn't so obvious when when the bill was split between four people.
Electricity consumption probably didn't half when four become two.1
