Are Electric Garage Doors Covered?

Hi All,
I'm hoping that someone would be able to help me with regards to my mother's garage electric roller door that she had fitted approx 4.5 years ago?
It decided to throw a right tantrum by knocking itself out of alignment & broke a number of components, also nearly falling on my mother in the process. This all occurred just before the Covid-19 lockdown was enforced.
I contacted the company regarding the warranty & was told by them that it only had 1 years cover (+ 10 for colour fade of the plastic door) Which to be honest was a bit shocking considering that it cost £1125 back then. They gave us a quote to repair it (apparently reduced) & arranged a date to come & fix it. We waited all day for them to arrive but they never turned up, no communication!
I contacted them the following day but the rep never gave me any valid reason what so ever as to why this happened. Giving us the impression that they weren't overly bothered either way, ultimately leaving my mother unable to use the garage or put her car away.
So, my question is...
My mother has Halifax Ultimate home insurance & we were wondering if the garage door would be covered? If so, would Halifax want it to be repaired?
My main concern is that the garage door isn't a brand that is well known
such as Garadoor or Hormann so spares etc appear to be only
available via the company that it was purchased from. So getting it repaired by someone else is not really an option & we're reluctant to go back to the original company.
Thanks for reading!,
Keith.

It would be covered for damage by fire, theft etc

The price doesn't seem excessive from what I can see for current prices for supply onle. A one year guarantee is low and might have been a warning of possible poor quality. The one's I've just been looking at have a 7 year warranty on the motor. The only way to know whether your problem is covered the insurer is to ask them. Bear in mind any excess, and the likely increase in premium following a claim.

Contact the manufacturer and ask if they will supply the necessary spares to you.0

Have a look locally for electric garage door suppliers - often better prices and service than the nationals.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

In the four and something years since the door was fitted has it been serviced, it apprears to be recommended that they are serviced annually.0

Home insurance doesn't cover any and all bad things that you might have to spend money on. It covers specific one off events which cause damage to your home - fires, floods, accidental damage (eg driving a car into the garage door) and so on. Some of the big things that it doesn't cover are general maintenance, wear and tear and defective goods/workmanship - those things are just part of the joy of being a homeowner.
So unless you can tie the damage down to a specific incident which is covered by your mum's policy, rather than the door generally being a bit duff, I'm afraid you' re not going to be able to claim for it.
