  • Hi,
you first posted in May when you said you had been in flat about 6 months and that you had a faulty E7 meter.
So, if you moved in November, were you using storage heaters over the winter months, the estimated figure may be based on that?
Also 10% off an unknown figure doesn't tell us much, you will need to wait and see what they come up with.

The bottom line is that nobody, including the Ombudsman, knows what your Annual consumption is, and what it's billing should be.
Bulbs 'Offer' is likely to be acceptable by the Ombudsman as it provides closure to an unsolvable problem - Question is, what is the 10% off + £60 worth in actual money?

There is another option, in that the accuracy of the current billing is put on hold - the OP still pays the bills- and then revisited when the new meter has been installed for 12 months, and accurate  Annual  figures are established.- This does carry the risk that the current billing has been Under Estimated, but what if the OP decides to shower at the Gym. cook only in the microwave and wear thick jumpers for 12 months?

What if the op already does a lot of these things and the estimate is higher than it otherwise would be ?

I'd argue that the energy companies have chosen not to send meter readers around each quarter to boost their profits, so they must accept much of the risk when meters go faulty.  OK, the pandemic has complicated matters but I'd want something a lot better than 10% off a meaningless amount.
A fair solution might be that right now you get the £60 compo and pay only the standing charges for the period when the meter was dodgy, then in 12 months' time you are billed an extra 75% of the amount you use in the same period next year.
  • Thanks for all the replies.
I have been over all my bills, so far it is estimated at £431 over the last 9 months.
I work 630am-6pm Monday to Friday, living on my own in a 2 bed flat, and have 3 kids one night midweek and every other weekend.
I assume its pretty fair? Not sure as previously married so it cost me a fortune 😄
