Virgin Atlantic Voucher

I had flights booked originally for March to Florida. When the Disney parks shut Virgin allowed me to push flights back to September. As the current situation has developed, Virgin are now offering travellers vouchers for use up to September 2022. Note that the park closures happened the day before we were due to fly but this was BEFORE the FCO advice not to travel. Therefore, it was our choice not to go as planned.
They have since advised that, although we’ve already had our one “free” change, they will allow us to put our rebooked flights on hold until 2022 as this wasn’t an option before. Great. We have decided we won’t be going in September even if flights are permitted as the park limitations will spoil the family holiday of a lifetime.
With Virgin’s financial position questionable, is taking a voucher a good idea? We plan to rebook in 2022 so there would be a use but I’m concerned that the only protection I have is the credit card used to book the original flights. I could keep my September seats in the hope that the flight is cancelled closer to the time and I can yet a cash refund from Virgin (thinking if no cancellation by mid-August then I just take the voucher). But is this riskier financially than taking the voucher?
Any thoughts appreciated.

It could depend on whether the "flights on hold until 2022 " or it's swapped to a "voucher"

Then you still have credit card protection, and if you do swap it to another flight then the protection still remains.
It's when it's turned into a voucher that's the issue, it should be protected, but haven't seen anyone 100% sure.
