insurance comparison site rip off

went to 4 well known comparison sites. all came back with same insurer, between £530 and £563. exactly the same details given to all. took cheapest quote from VAN INSURE.
paid premium only to find when checking details, they missed off :  Alloy wheels/flat not house/tow bar/reversing sensors and eye-site problem, reported with no restrictions.
They then upped the premium by £145. When I complained they said it would cost £30 to cancel and would take 7/10 days to refund my premium.  had to accept as I needed the refund to purchase elsewhere. Moral? dont take cheapest quote and do check they have all info before paying!  Vandriver 78

Sounfs like you didnt check the info at the point where they say check the info. Very dodgy not to confirm that, theres another poster on here that didnt and he ended up with cover on a vehicle that doesnt exist any more.

By your own admission, you didn't check what you should have. How is that a rip-off?

No rip off.  Comparison sites take the high level data to give an initial quote, but there is always a requirement to go through the insurance website to ensure you have provided all the correct details for that particular insurance company.

And there's a parallel thread going on showing another damn good reason why you should always check, and not assume...

You can also report this error in transferring the information over to the insurer to the comparison site. They will look into it and take it seriously because problems like these damage the reputation of the comparison site and then people are less likely to use them so they don't get their commission. This means that they will want to be as accurate as possible when giving quotes.

But at least it only cost you £30 to learn the lesson of checking the details before you purchase the insurance.
