From the way the OP has said they worded their letter/email to the employer, I would also assume that the employer deems this as the OP handing in their notice. Although that was not the intent, the employer only has to give contracted notice to terminate employment anyway.

Thanks for getting us back to the topic of the OP.
If they give contractual notice then they'd need to pay 100% plus holiday pay (or give notice to take the holiday but could reclaim if more had been taken than accrued).0
