Advice for furlough

I am currently employed at a hotel chain. I was living in York but as my tenancy runs out in July I will not be working there anymore when they reopen as I cannot afford to live in York anymore. I have notified them that I will not be returning to work when it reopens, however, I had an email back that they will not be able to provide me with employment anymore at the hotel as they have to review their staffing levels, which means they will not be continuing my furlough payments.
In this current climate, it has been increasingly difficult to find jobs as I have just finished university and I’m wondering if I have any rights in them continuing my furlough until they reopen as I was supposed to be working there until July when my tenancy runs out? Wondering if I have any rights for furlough at this time!

The hotel needs to shed staff and you've already informed them that you will not be returning so it is quite reasonable that your employment be terminated. If they continued to pay you on furlough they would be liable to pay you additional holiday pay at their own cost. It's entirely up to the employer whether they furlough a member of staff and effectively you have submitted your resignation.2

You have no rights to furlough and as above you have basically handed your resignation in. The only thing you may have a right to is notice period depending on your contract.2

The only thing I’m confused about is that I was supposed to leave in July? So I effect I wondered if i would have been furloughed until July0

Ask your employer if they will be willing to do so, albeit at 80% of pay rather than 100% (assuming they've been topping it up) - but it's their decision.livwalker1 said:The only thing I’m confused about is that I was supposed to leave in July? not sure if its the way you've worded it but you have the statutory right to your notice period, whether in your contract or not - the amount depending on whether its contractual (i.e. more than stat minimum) and length of servicesharpe106 said:You have no rights to furlough and as above you have basically handed your resignation in. My son was working 1 morning a week and has been put on Furlough. He has the opportunity of a second job with a different company, a zero hours contract but the opportunity to do more hours, is he allowed to take this job and keep his original job? Will it affect his entitlement to Furlough?0

If his current employer is happy for him to get a 2nd job then yes and it will not effect his Furlough. If they are not happy he will need to decide to take the new job and leave his current job or to turn down the new job.0

check the contract. If silent on whether he can work for someone else then that's fine. He can be furloughed for one employer and work for another.garlinb said:My son was working 1 morning a week and has been put on Furlough. For a job which is half-a-day a week, it would be very unfair for an employer to seek exclusivity of the employee's working time, whether furloughed or not. If the son is so young that a parent asks the question, then I'd just take the work being offered.0 -
Granted it would be very unfair but always best to ask, if they said no I would be looking elsewhere anyway.0
