We had a package holiday booked to Japan with Flight Centre UK & were due depart on 27th March. Our holiday was cancelled & we have insisted we wanted a cash refund but were told we would be sent a refund credit note. We were told the expiry date of the refund credit note would be 31st July 2020 & if not used by that date we would then get a cash refund. After several emails we have now received a refund credit note but the expiry date is 31/03/21. We have queried the expiry date with Flight Centre UK but they won't honour the original date. Has anyone received a cash refund from Flight Centre UK or received a credit note with an earlier expiry date than 31/03/21 please?

If you bought a package holiday, you should legally  have a cash refund within 14 days

  • We paid the balance of the holiday by credit card. I know we are legally entitled to a cash refund within 14 days but if the company refuse to give us a cash refund & only offer a refund credit note I don't know where to go next.

In which case I would follow the excellent advice from Life_Goes_On I have seen on other similar topics:

"Raise a "Chargeback" against the transaction stating non-supply of service, (using proof of cancellation) also state that you have rejected any vouchers that you are entitled to do under English law (even if you not been offered any).

Normally with a Chargeback the money is returned once it’s processed. They can dispute the Chargeback, but it must supply evidence to the card company.

If they are successful, then the Chargeback is reversed and the money taken back  from your account.

If that fails then it's a Section 75 on the credit card."

  • Thanks for the advice we will try using chargeback

If I paid the holiday deposit on a debit card & the balance of the holiday by credit card will I receive the total value back from my credit card company if I make a Chargeback claim or if that claim fails a Section 75 claim or alternatively do I need to make a separate claim to the debit card company for the deposit & a second claim to the credit card company for the balance?

As you used to cards I believe you need to make 2 claims, 1 for the deposit and second for the balance.

Just to expand on DCFC79 post
For a Chargeback it would be on both cards (each transaction on those cards if more than one)
If the Chargeback fails, then it's a S75 on the credit card only The deposit from the debit card will be covered by the credit card.

  • Hi
My package holiday was cancelled in May and instead of a full refund given a Refund Credit Note which is due to expire on the 31st July. According to ABTA the refund should be paid either before or on the expiry date.  My expiry is the 31st July 2020 can someone explain what will happen if my travel company does not pay before or on that date.  It is now the 17th July and I haven't heard anything from the company, they are really cutting it short.

I suspect the best you can hope for is payment on that date. I think many companies assumed that by July business would be back to almost normal, and in particular, airlines would have refunded cancelled flights. That, of course, is not the situation at all but you are entitled to press them for the money and report the issue to ABTA on August 1st if they have not paid up
