Google - Can Sponsored Links be scams?

Can you trust Google sponsored links? When I saw UnlockSearch as a sponsored link with Google Checkout, I assumed it must be ok. But my £2.99 only yielded advice to "look on the internet" etc. Now I worry that my PayPal account and email address have been compromised too.

Thanks for the info. It confirms my suspicions. I should have used WOT (http://www.mywot.com) to check the site. In the meantime, I have unlocked my phone for free using Martin's recommendation of Unlockitfree.com.

Thanks for the link to WOT, I've never heard of it before. I had a quick play with the demo and it was spot on with the sites I tried.
