help getting rid of MSN please

I have just taken over a laptop owned by a community group as i am the new secretary.... the guy i have taken over from has installed msn messenger and used it. The problem now is whenever i open Windows Explorer or MSN Explorer I am signed into his msn and get messages from his family etc.....
There is no messenger icon in the tray showing it is logged in??? I only found out when messeges about his friends signing in etc started popping up.

I have spoken to him over the phone as he has moved away and despite our efforts to sort it we cant. He cant see anything on his Messenger screen that would allow this and i cant see anything on the laptop.... I am no pc wizard mind!
I would really appreciate some help to stop this happening please.

Thanks in anticipation.

  • Are you on XP?

If so, Go to Start | Control Panel

    Click User Accounts

    Click an account

Click Manage my network passwords (in the top leftof the window)

    Highlight his MSN name

    Click Remove

Now follow this page to remove WINDOWS messenger service, this is NOT the same as MSN messenger, but as a security issue, Windows messenger service should be disabled

If none of the above work you could try this

Click START and choose SET PROGRAM ACCESS AND DEFAULTS. When it opens click the ADD/REMOVE WINDOWS COMPONENTS you will then be able to untick both MSN and Messenger to uninstall them.

It seems to have been cured by signing in as him on the laptop. Then using the messenger tools we deselected the auto sign on when explorer detected and it appears that has sorted the problem out...... so far so good........ Simple when you know how!
