Halifax Reward debit card timing out on HL's website at the Halifax Secure stage

Just trying to do a test fund (£10) of my newly created HL Active Saving, for use next month, and cannot get past the Halifax Secure page on HL's payment page.
I've used the card today in a shop with chip&pin, and the card has funds. I can login to the Halifax site and cant see anything wrong.
I've used Tesco bank to do another test fund (£10) with HL and that has succeeded first time.
Could anyone please suggest anything I'm missing and any avenues to check? Is the card somehow blocked for online use, is that even possible?
Thanks

    HL = Hargreaves Lansdown?

It sounds to me as if the problem lies with the Halifax validation system. If I'm right, it might be worth talking to Halifax and asking them what's happening.

It's probably also worth talking to HL. It might be a known problem. I've only ever put money into my HL account from the bank account that's linked to it for outgoing payments. Do they have a restriction preventing you from paying in from another account? I didn't think so, but might be wrong on this. Which is your linked bank account?

Since you're likely to have difficulty getting through to either organisation at the moment, I can understand it if you don't want to do this. There does appear to be a solution, albeit one that's less than ideal: transfer money from your Halifax account to Tesco and then use your Tesco card to put money into your HL account.

Re the 2nd point of the reply - I've added money to my HL SIPP with 3 different bank accounts/debit cards , over the past few years, so can't see it being an HL issue . "Verified by Visa" or its equivalents on the other hand .......

AFIK you have to use your linked current account for HL  Savings account, both to deposit and withdraw funds.

You cannot use your linked current account to make deposits into HL. You have to use a card, and you can use any UK debit card.

OP, what browser do you use? I make my deposits, incl. with Halifax debit cards, in Chrome. I have just made a deposit with a Halifax debit card this morning.

Is it not possible to fund it by direct debit? I can certainly do that with my HL ISA and Fund & Share Account.

Only indirectly. You could do a DD into your Share & Fund account, and then manually transfer the money to the Active Savings account.

However, the OP is only interested in deposits with a Halifax debit card, for specific reasons  B)
  • Hi
I've used my Halifax debit card to fund my HL Active Savings Account recently as a test to meet the Halifax terms and didn't encounter any problems. The Halifax account isn't my linked account.
    Cheers

I think it might be due to how Halifax Secure works with browsers?
I've succeeded in using Konqueror browser to login and pay using the Halifax debit card. Firefox just doesnt work with it. Firefox works when trying to use Tesco's secure system with Hargreaves Lansdown.

So it seems to be a Firefox + Halifax issue.
