Painting outdoor metal furniture

Hi, I have aluminium garden chairs there black hammerite if flaking off in some patches. Also some black painted metal sunloungers with some rust.
how to paint?
primer? Is this really needed?

You need the correct paint, generally different ones for steel and aluminium, most don't require a primer. Simply sand / rub down and paint is usual with most of these paints.

Frenchic paint is what I use their alfresco range ..but trying to get hold of any is pot luck at the minute0

Have a look at the rustoleum brand as they include hammerite variant if I recall and are a spray based paint. The finish on can will advise if primer is required or not. I think if flaking then you would be best to sand down, prime then paint but have a look at a few brands and the type of finish required. When buying I always have a quick look at reviews in amazon just to see what other people say.0
