Qantas flights through BYO Jet, how to proceed ?

My wife and I were due to travel to Australia in late March with my daughter, son in law and 10 month old granddaughter to visit our son who is resident out there.
The flight went ahead obviously without us as the FCO had by then stopped non essential travel.
As a family we had decided my daughter would book all seats on the flight and we would pay for accommodation whilst out there. The accommodation, through HomeAway immediately offered us a full refund which we received the same day. The flights however are a different story....
I am unsure exactly what our rights are ? We have been offered and received notification of travel vouchers but these are only with BYO and very vague
The flight wasn't actually cancelled though we had via the contact form let BYO know several days in advance we weren't travelling. My daughter has managed to speak to someone at BYO and we are apparently still on the airline booking system as a "no show" despite this.
My daughter is currently attempting a chargeback claim through her credit card.
The trip was right at the end of her maternity leave and its unlikely she will have the means to travel out again so a refund would be our preferred option but should this be fee free ? In our contact with BYO we have consistently requested a refund but this seems to have been ignored.
Can we insist on a fee free refund and if so which specific legislation aids us ?
Constructive help would be appreciated, in hindsight (Its a wonderful thing ) we should have booked direct with the airline but how can we resolve the situation we find ourselves ?
Many Thanks

Does your household and your daughters household have travel insurance?

Yes we did book a return where the plane also flew the time/route as the London-Perth route was used for repatriation both ways
Yes we both have travel insurance though I suspect the excess on ours will be similar to any cancellation fees imposed rightly or otherwise by either the airline/ booking agent0 -
If both ways flights flew unless you had refundable tickets, you might not get anywhere with BYO
You might strike lucky with the Chargeback, but I would expect BYO to contest it saying there was no breach to the contract
See how the Chargeback goes, if that fails then looks like you will have to go to the insurers.

Thanks for replying, I understand your thought process but hoped the fact we already have a voucher despite not requesting one that the issue of deniability has been passed. Just hoped there was a legal framework I could refer to.0

With a flight voucher, some airlines are offering them when legally they didn't have to.
