Mortgage Payment Holiday - payments deducted from Savings A/c

As both my husband & myself have lost our jobs due to the coronavirus. We applied for the Coronavirus mortgage holiday on our Santander mortgage, & received a letter confirming that no direct debits would be taken during this 3 month period. 

 Whilst no DD have been taken I was shocked to discover this week that our monthly payments have incorrectly been taken out of the savings a/c which is linked to the mortgage,  Diminishing our savings which I was about to use to pay essential bills!

I contacted the Bank who have acknowledged that this shouldn’t have happened & have said it will be credited back to the Savings A/c within 5 days.
If you have a savings a/c linked to your mortgage & have taken a mortgage holiday, it may be worth checking that the same hasn’t happened to you as it was only by chance that I noticed the error.
