University Fees

Hi Team,

I recently started an OU course for MA in translation with the OU. Unfortunately due to the Corona Virus Epidemic I was unable to complete the module and requested a refund. At first they were nice to me and said that I had to agree to a deferral then I could claim a percentage in reimbursement. I explained that these circumstances are exceptional and were not included in the contract so I should get a full refund, regardless of what terms and conditions were signed. They sent me a link to a discretionary fees and compensation form and deferred me but the problem is that the link is behind a password which mine has no access to and they haven't answered me requests to send the pdf or remove the password.

Now I received an email advising that I am due a discount of a measly 25% should I return and redo the course (but only for a few years from now). This is unacceptable. They are punishing me for a change of my lifestyle due to an international crisis. I need them to refund me the £3800 I paid, more than ever.

Is there anything I could do? Can I take them to a claims court? If so, how do I start?

regards,
Y-ME

P.S. I work fulltime and have a young child. My wife also works fulltime so are hit hardest in terms of free time.

If the OU is able to provide you with what you contracted to receive then you're only entitled to a refund if you qualify under any terms and conditions in the contract. I doubt that a change in your personal circumstances would be covered.

Why is the situation exceptional? why could you not complete the module?
