My wife works in a local care home for a large national chain and recently had Covid 19 with a positive test and had to take 14 days off work only to be paid 95.90 SSP for that period , now i thought that SSP was payable from day one of absence or have i got it all wrong ??

For COVID-19 i is indeed payable from day 1. For 2 weeks she should therefore have got £95.85 x 2 = £191.70 (less any NI, tax, pension contributions due)gwapoman said:My work works in a local care home for a large national chain and recently had Covid 19 with a positive test and had to take 14 days off work only to be paid 95.90 SSP for that period , now i thought that SSP was payable from day one of absence or have i got it all wrong ??Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. The amount of change they have had to keep up with is a challenge at the best of times.gwapoman said: Considering 20% of the workforce went down with Covid 19 and returned positive tests due to lack of PPE ...i find it hard to believe they were not aware of there payroll responsibility's .
Refer them to the Statutory Sick Pay (Coronavirus) (Suspension of Waiting Days and General Amendment) Regulations 2020 http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2020/374/regulation/2/made
They can recover the cost of two weeks SSP for COVID-19 from the government if their workforce is less than 250 employees https://www.gov.uk/guidance/claim-back-statutory-sick-pay-paid-to-employees-due-to-coronavirus-covid-19Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated.
