Box Tape

Hi.
I've got to package up a big heavy item to be taken away, but unfortunately I cut the original box into a few pieces - so i've got to try and fix it back together along with another box to it's in a decent enough condition for moving.
Does anyone have any tips for me?
Also does anyone know what that 'box tape' is officially called? -The one that's made of hard plastic and is usually white in colour and roughly 1cm in width, as I could do with getting some of that to try and stop the box falling apart. I can't find it anywhere on the net. Thanks.

I can suggest PVA and other pieces of cardboard, strong enough and overlapping

Would cross weave reinforced tape do the job?

The plastic straps often on parcels are joined by melting, plastic welding?, so would be unusable unless you could do this. Copious amounts of parcel tape should work.
