Old Debt

Hello,
I am new to this forum so apologies if this has been done before. I have 3 old debts with Halifax, a loan, credit card and overdraft that were sold onto 3 debt collection agency over 6 years ago, they are Capquest, Robinson Way and Wescot. I have been paying these every month for the full 6 years and on checking my credit score on Experian and Clear Score have noticed they are no longer there. I am writing to check if anyone's knows if these debts still need paying. Or if I stop paying can there be any comeback and having the defaults placed back on my credit report. I have spoke to National Debt Helpline and Halifax and neither were able to shed any light. Thanks for reading

    sounds hard to believe
  • Thanks for your feedback. I am asking the question as when speaking to National Debt Helpline a chap advised as it's not on my credit report he didn't think this would still need paying but to ask the creditor. I then phoned Halifax and the lady on the other end of the phone couldn't advise either. Her advice was the debt was sold on and they they only report on Experian and couldn't assist me any further. Hence me now coming here for advice as mentioned earlier my debts are no longer showing on Experian

Defaulted accounts stay on your file for six years, then drop off it regardless of wether the debt is repaid or not.
The debt remains valid, as long as the creditors can prove they have the legal right to ask for payment.
This is achieved by means of a CCA request to the creditor.

The advisor at National Debtline must have been new.

Fantastic thanks very much. I will get in touch with the agencies tomorrow and request the CCA. I have worked hard to try and clear debts over the last few years and didn't want to ruin what I've put in so far. my credit score is on the rise with those old debts not showing and I am finding light at the end of a very long tunnel. The Chap on the phone didn't seem overly confident and still referred me to Halifax. I'm also not the most knowledgeable hence me coming here for advice.
