Furlough Question pls

  • Hi can anyone advise? My son’s employer offered furlough to volunteers initially based on a letter to each staff member advising what their personal payment would be at 80%.  My son took furlough due to affordability and child care. However he has been pAid £400 less than advised. His manager has stated they used someone else’s average by mistake and won’t pay the shortfall.  Can they do this? My son wouldn’t have agreed to furlough if he had been given the correct calculation of his expected wage.  Thanks

There is a process they need to go through, not as simple as sign or we will make you redundant. But that could be the end result if they can't afford to pay your current salary.

I was in a similar position ie told furloughed but no payments or info about them.
To answer your furlough question yourself best you can anyway look on your personal tax account and see if any payments are showing on there.

I am not sure what you mean by prove they cant afford to pay you?
